Common questions

Does FridgeChef work offline? +
No — FridgeChef requires an internet connection to send your photo to Google Cloud Vision and to call the DeepSeek API for recipe generation. Both AI services are cloud-based and need network access to work.
How accurate is the ingredient detection? +
Google Cloud Vision is highly accurate for whole produce and common pantry items. For best results, ensure good lighting, include as many ingredients as possible in the frame, and take the photo close enough to see individual items clearly. The app only uses labels above a 70% confidence score.
What Android version is required? +
FridgeChef requires Android 8.0 (Oreo, API level 26) or later. This covers the vast majority of Android devices in use today.
Is my photo data stored or used for training? +
Your photos are sent to Google Cloud Vision only for ingredient analysis and are not stored by FridgeChef. Please refer to Google Cloud's and DeepSeek's respective privacy policies for details on how those services handle API request data.
Can I use photos from my gallery instead of taking a new one? +
Yes! The app includes a "Choose from Gallery" option on the home screen, so you can select an existing photo of your ingredients instead of taking a new one each time.
Will there be an iOS version? +
FridgeChef is currently Android-only. An iOS version is on the roadmap depending on demand — follow us for updates.
